Who Is The Only US President Born On July 4 ?

The only US president to be born on July 4 is John Calvin Coolidge Jr. He was the thirtieth president of the United States from 1923 to 1929. Coolidge was born on July 4, 1872 in Plymouth, Vermont to John Calvin Coolidge and Victoria Josephine Moor.

Coolidge was a Republican lawyer practicing in Vermont. However, he gradually worked his way up the state politics in Massachusetts. He finally became the governor of Massachusetts. He came to the limelight in national politics during the Boston Police Strike in 1919. Thereafter, he was elected the vice president in 1920. He became the president after Warren G. Harding died. Then in 1924, he was elected president.

Coolidge was informed on August 3, 1923 at 2.30 am that he had become the president as Warren Harding had died. He was in Vermont visiting his family. It was his father, who was a notary public, who first administered the oath of office to him.

Coolidge graduated from Amherst College and then went on to study law and politics in Northampton, Massachusetts. He started in Massachusetts politics as a councilman and then worked his way up to become the governor of the state. It is claimed that during his rise in state politics, he became extremely conservative.

Coolidge's great great grandfather, also named John Coolidge, fought in the American Revolutionary War. He was an army officer. His ancestor migrated to America in 1530 from Cambridge, England and settled in the town of Watertown located in Massachusetts.

On taking over the presidency, Coolidge restored the public's faith in the office as the White House was plagued by scandals during the time of Warren Harding. He was a very popular president, even while leaving office.
